Week in review 8 - 14th
Monday 8th
Monday was a start of a new beginning (not really that big a of a deal, mind you.), TAFE Orientation, that day I learnt that two students from my high school are also doing the same certificate as me (three, IT), and that the word TAFE no longer exists (TAFE is actually a acronym), but I’m still calling it TAFE because TAFE is easier to say then, “Challenger Institute of Technology”
I arrived at the college, had no idea where I had to go, or who to speak to, I saw a group of people and a lecturer, stood near them, and quickly realised that they weren’t my type (they were talking about art), I headed off the information desk, but on my way, I noticed a line of smelly nerds, yep, I had found my group. This is also where I saw my high school friends.
After standing in line for about 5 minutes, we were let into the lecture theatre, this is where the head lecturer decided to let us know that the air conditioning was not functioning, it took about 15 seconds for the room to start to smell of BO, off to a great start.
When that was finally over, we got our timetables and books, and one of the lecturers took our group on a tour of the campus, we arrived at the lecturers room, which I was horrified to see that it was full of PCs (years of being at a private school gives you the expectation of seeing Macs), I sorta freaked.
We were sent on our way, me and my two friends decided it would be an excellent idea to head to the local shopping centre, I spent way too much money, and bought lunch.
Tuesday 9th
Didn’t really do anything on tuesday, besides play my newly acquired PS3 games.
Wednesday 10th
I took my car (Volvo S40) to get some brushes replaced, was originally told it was just the one that needed doing it. Well, apparently not, at around 12 (and after waiting for 3 hours) Mum and I decided to take the loan car (Volvo 740 D: [this is one of my least favourite volvos]) to get some lunch. anther 2 hours passed and my car was finally ready, drove it home happily. $500 well spent.
Thursday 11th
My first real day at TAFE, I offered to pick my friends up from the train station, little did I know, their train comes in over an hour before we need to be there.
Being early did work out quite well, I decided I would buy my books, I found the ones I needed, and got in line, I was subjected to a brain cell frying conversation from the two typical Rockingham girls in front of me (who by the way, are doing a receptionist course [thrilling!]).
After that ordeal, we headed off to our first class, network administration. In this class, I out nerded the nerds, I was the only one who could explain virtualisation, and who ran their own home server.
Most of this lesson was spent listening to the lecturer talk about binary, and IP addresses, the whole time I just wanted to play with some servers!
At around 12 we were let out, and we headed to the TAFÉ Café, I bought a hamburger ($4.20!)
After the TAFÉ Café we went back to class, shut down the computers and headed off to our next class, Operating Systems!
In OS we got our own 20GB removable HDDs and (attempted) to install XP on them, my drive didn’t want to have anything to do with a quick format, so I had to sit waiting for the loooooong format to complete. By the time that was finished it was time to go home.
I learnt something important in that class… How to play solitaire whilst installing XP.
I dropped my friends off at the train station, and was on my way home, where I was subjected to a real life game of 20 questions from my mum, regarding my day at TAFE (It would be so much easier if she just read my blog [no wait, that’s a bad idea]).
Friday 12th
Second day at TAFE, and an early start, I was at the train station at 7:40am, arrived at TAFE 10 minutes later, where I was both surprised and infuriated by the fact that there was no line at the book shop.
Off to our only class of the day, Customer Relationship Management, the name of it instantly gave me a bad feeling about it.
My lecturer for that class reminding me of my old form teacher at high school, very laid back and awesome. He wanted us to write what we expect of the class (he wanted a whole page, but I only managed to get a paragraph) once we had finished that he allowed us to do what ever we wanted, which of course meant it was time to play Don’t Shit Your Pants. I also added a extra gigabyte to my Optus iPhone plan for tethering.
Once we were let out, one of my friends came back to my place for pizza and Borderlands, this went on for about an hour. Good times.
Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th
They haven’t happened yet, but my weekends are anything but exciting, so I’m not going to bother.
